Demographics

Population

The population of India is currently 1.2 billion. However, it wasn't always that high. India's population has grown rapidly throughout the past few decades. A chart of India's growth from 1961-2003:

The birth rate in India (22.22 births/1000 population) is much greather than the death rate (6.4 deaths/1000 population), so the population of India should continue to rise.

Age

India has a very young population- 2/3 of the people are under age 35. 31% of the population alone are ages 0-14! The working class of India (ages 15-64) takes up 63% of the population, and the senior population is a mere 6%.

Gender

As of 2009, the sex ratio at birth in India of male/female is 1.12, a rather evened out ratio. Woman's life expectancy is about 72 years; Men's is about 70.

Religion

India is predominantly Hindu (80.5% of the population); however, other religions are practiced. 13.4% of the population is Muslim. Other religions, such as Christianity and Bhuddism, make up the rest of the populations' practices.

Ethnicity

India's population is mainly Inglo-Aryan, with 72% of the population being this ethnicity. Other ethnicities include Dravidian and Mongoloid.
